Bunk Beds Furnish Space for Your Life

There is no denying that bunk beds have been around for many years. They were used on ships, dormitories, in army barracks and even in prison cells. They were and still are great furniture pieces because they can supply more floor space for small cramped rooms. Bunk beds are clever, multi functional beds that can also give children’s bedrooms a lot of freedom, space and fun.

For most families, having enough bedroom space for their children is not always easy to come by. Bunk beds can offer extra breathing room and recently, new innovative designs allow extra storage and extra seating as well.

For instance, one trend we are seeing more of is the bunk beds with stairs. These let children actually walk up onto the top bunk without the awkwardness of a ladder. The best part is they are capable of storing the same amount of items and clothing as a chest of drawers. There are also bunk beds that have storage beneath the bottom bunk. If you can eliminate the need for a chest of drawers you can allow even more room to play, wander and mosey around. More space equals more fun for children.

There are also bunk beds that contain trundle beds. They are stored directly under the bottom bunk bed and pulls out for use, perfect for another child to sleep on for those last minute sleep over’s. They are affordable for families with young children that may not have multiple bedrooms.

Futons are also incorporated in the design of bunk beds. The bottom bunk is a futon which functions as a bed and seating area. If you have older kids that love to lounge when they watch TV or play video games, these are a great choice.

If you are concerned about safety, you really need to use your best judgment when it comes to your kids. Bunk beds are really not recommended for children under the age of six but that’s your call. All bunk beds have safety railings on the top bunk but as a parent you know that kids can be unpredictable. It’s best to use common sense.

Let’s talk style. You can get all different types of finishes and colors, depending on your design aesthetic for your room. White bunk beds go great with pastel colors, especially for little girl’s rooms. Black bunk beds give a sleeker contemporary look that can be appropriate in a teen’s room. Pine wood bunk beds are naturally beautiful and can give a rustic look.

The more bunk beds you have to choose from the more difficult it can be to decide, so really keep your child’s taste in mind. Ask yourself, “How can I get the best function out of this room?” Bunk beds are a great investment because they are fun, functional furniture pieces that are affordable. You can’t get any better than that.
